Description

I was watching :iconshiranova:'s livestream when :iconmaruuki: came on, and I was browsing his and her tumblrs when I saw an animated gif made from :iconmaruuki:'s OC marumaru. Like most things that really should have only been a sketch, it turned into something bigger.... so yeah. Here's a watercolor. You don't see many of those from me. My brushes are horrible. I use really cheap starter paints and watercolor paper that came in a pack for about $5. I don't even have a palette (I use an empty tofu carton orz... so poor). So yeah! That's why I don't really paint much. ._.; I didn't think I could still paint, and even then my camera quality is so poor... this looks nothing like the actual painting. WhaddoIdowithoutscanner?!

Either way... I had fun with it. Next time, maybe good brushes will magically appear on my table or something. I also must remember to paint while the sun is up. My workspace has poor lighting.

Meh, I think this looks really great.

I love the hair -- I like how the light softly reflects off of it and gives it a really fun, soft textured shine. I especially love how the lighting draws more attention to the flow of her hair falling down and dancing about her shoulders. I love the energy it has as it falls, and I think the light brightens the hair up and punches up the sense of motion even more.

I like the textures throughout. I always love the organic, lifelike texture that comes from watercolor, and I like how you used it to show the distinct feels of different parts of this painting. Like I said, her hair has a nice, shiny feel to it, and the collar of her sailor outfit has a heavier, stiffer feel than the lighter fabric of the scarf that we see in the wrinkles/creases/folds on it. I really like that you portrayed all of the different textures in a distinct way.

What I might like most bout this is her expression, particularly the eyes. In a lot of your art I've seen, the eyes feel a little more clouded, a little more muted and soft. And it works well in those pieces I'm thinking off -- there's a softer, quiet, dreamy feel to them and softening the eyes fits with that atmosphere. But I really love the bright eyes here, the lively spark in them that makes her face so captivating. And there's still a warm, soft look to the eyes, coupled with the subtle but really dazzling smile it makes for a charming, contented, happy expression that is suuuuuper cute and lively. I dunno, but her face really grabbed me.

Anyhoo. Yeah. I really like this. :+fav:
